How do we know if our kids are able to see clearly? When Tyler’s reading challenges were picked up at an early age, we decided to also get his vision checked out, to rule out short-sightedness or other sight-related challenges.
Eye care has always been something that is important to me. Being able to see clearly is a their window to the world. After all, we love our lives on the road with our frequent travels to expose the boys to different cultures and experiences, and have since come to understand that even UV from the sun can be a cause of eye damage, and can especially affect young children.
More importantly, I believe that it is important to start inculcating and practicing good eye care habits with the boys starting from a young age so that this awareness becomes a part of their lifestyle. We can’t correct short-sightedness in kids but we can take steps to prevent it.
That’s why this new platform by Essilor couldn’t be more timely! In fact, it would go hand in hand with the eye test at the optometrist that I’ve booked for Tyler, where we could bring our online vision test results to the pros for a more detailed consultation.
It would definitely be helpful to the optician to have the online vision test results in hand before the full fledged vision examination as well, since it would give them a clearer idea of Tyler’s current eye health condition.
The online vision test is simple and ticks all the checkboxes for a fun activity with the kids. Interactive, simple and nicely designed with bright pops of colours, Tyler and Jake were actually having fun doing the test!
However, beyond eye tests, Essilor’s platform also offers a plethora of articles for us to learn about good eye care habits so that we can teach our little ones the best practises to keep their eyes in tip top condition.
Sneak peek of the good stuff below with tidbits of important eye care practises (I didn’t even know about the Harmon Distance previously)!
All in all, I would definitely recommend all parents to use Essilor’s new platform to introduce your kids to vision tests and find out more about good eye care habits! After all, what better time to check in on you and your child’s eye health than on World Sight Day?
